Most Popular Plastic Surgery Procedures in 2008 by Region of the United States   by Sara Larsen

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ statistics, the Pacific and Mountain states have the highest rates of plastic surgery on the country. Read on to find out how popular plastic surgery is in other areas of the country.

Breast augmentation (Augmentation mammaplasty)
A total of 307,230 patients underwent breast augmentation in 2008. The majority of those patients were in the Pacific/Mountain states, while the least were in the New England and mid-Atlantic states.

Region 1: 47,288, 15%
Region 2: 48,309, 16%
Region 3: 51,289, 17%
Region 4: 49,805, 16%
Region 5: 110,539, 36%

Eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty)
About 221,398 eyelid surgery procedures were performed last year. Most blepharoplasties were performed in the Pacific/Mountain region, while the least were performed in the East South Central, West South Central states.

Region 3: 47,403, 21%
Region 4: 26,706, 12%

Liposuction
In 2008, about 245,138 liposuction procedures were performed. The Pacific/Mountain states had the highest rate of liposuction surgeries, while the East North Central, West North Central States had the lowest rate of liposuction.

Nose reshaping (Rhinoplasty)
Of the 279,218 rhinoplasty procedures performed last year, the New England and mid-Atlantic states had the highest amount performed; the South Atlantic states had the lowest rates.

Tummy tuck (Abdominoplasty)
About 121,653 tummy tucks were performed by plastic surgeons in 2008. Most took place in the Pacific/Mountain states, the least were performed in the East South Central, West South Central states.

Out of 112,933 facelifts performed last year, the highest rate was in the Pacific/Mountain states, and the least were performed in the East North Central, West North Central states.

Total Plastic Surgery Procedures
Of the 1,669,026 plastic surgery procedures performed in 2008, the Pacific/Mountain states had the highest rate, the New England/mid-Atlantic states had the second highest rate, the south-Atlantic states had the third highest rate. The East South Central, West South Central states and East North Central, West North Central states had the second lowest and lowest rates, respectively.
